Do you sell on Amazon?
We currently do not sell through marketplaces like Amazon, but it is something we're constantly evaluating. We certainly understand why people love shopping on Amazon. However, Amazon presents a number of challenges to sellers, including some predatory business practices. We also have a number of items that are oversized which would increase our costs due to storage fees. As a craft food or beverage maker, you will appreciate the hard work that goes into building and protecting your brand. It would be like someone asking you why you don't have distribution through the big box retailers. Our customers love shopping with Union Jack because of our ease of shopping hand-picked, quality products that are purpose-built for our industries, our low prices and fast shipping. You are supporting a small business that cares about its customers. As long as we can continue to offer a superior customer experience through our own store, that would be our preference.
What is the difference between euro threading and ACME threading?
Euro threading (shown below in blue) is considered a fine thread and is more resistant to bacteria as well as the handle coming unscrewed during use. All Vikan / Remco products use a Vikan Euro thread with the exception of the Remco broom/dustpan combo. ACME threading (shown below in black) is a coarse thread and is used by La Crosse Brush and many other commonly used products. Some items made by Harold Moore (maker of Unirake) and Hill Brush have an exclusive thread and you must use their branded handle. Please contact us if you have questions about the compatibility of various handles with brushes, scrapers, squeegees and forks.
Why would I choose stainless steel or brass wash down nozzles?
When choosing wash down nozzles and hoses, it is important to understand your application before deciding on brass vs. stainless steel. These metals are used in the nozzles, adapters, couplings, and hose assemblies. Brass is typically less expensive than stainless steel, and should be reserved for wash-down purposes only. Stainless steel is of higher quality, and because it's a harder material, it is stronger and more durable. Stainless steel is also considered more hygienic and a better option for higher temperatures. Additionally, brass may corrode from the caustic and acids used in sanitation, so brewers prefer stainless steel. Union Jack offers a variety of nozzles, adapters, couplings, and hoses in both brass and stainless steel to fit your budget and needs.
How do I choose between 2 long-side runners and 3 short-side runners for your harvest bins?
We have a great blog post on the topic because it can be confusing. There are a number of deciding factors including whether you are using a forklift or pallet jack, how much space you have to maneuver the bins, and whether you need to dump them. The 2 long-side runners run parallel to the long side of the bin (48"). A pallet jack would have to enter from the short side. The 3 short-side runners run parallel to the short side of the bin (40"). A pallet jack would have to enter from the long side.
Should I choose a stainless steel paddle/hoe or polypropylene paddle/hoe?
Our stainless steel paddles are made of heavy-duty type 304 steel and are NSF certified. They offer the most durable option. Our polypropylene paddles are more lightweight, come in several color-coded options to support your HACCP plan, and are FDA-compliant. But they have a maximum temperature of 176 °F. Typically brewers like the polypropylene paddles/hoes because, while less durable, they are less likely to damage your equipment in case they are caught in your mash tun's rake or plow. Additionally, polypropylene is less likely to scratch or scar your stainless steel tanks.
